Newcastle sign striker who stunned youth scouts in 6-1 win as recruitment drive continues
Newcastle United have signed 16-year-old striker Kayden Lucas from Clevedon Town after scouts watched him score four times in a 6-1 victory.
After scoring nine times in just six games for Clevedon Town Under 18s - a club in the ninth tier of English football - Lucas has already been snapped up by Newcastle and handed a scholarship contract as our academy recruitment drive continues.
It's believed Lucas - who goes by the nickname 'Chumpy' - wasn't initially the main focus for Newcastle scouts, but talent spotters in attendance were hugely impressed by the teenager's intelligence, pace and finishing.
This is one of four Under-16 signings secured by the club already, with Everton centre-back Aaron Epia, Portsmouth midfielder CJ Afumuzor and former West Ham winger Ezra Tika-Lemba also signing.
Newcastle have recently added to their coaching team at Academy level, with young coach Jack Brazil arriving from PSV to become the Under-16s new boss following several years with the Eredivisie giants.
