In a lunchtime bombshell for Newcastle United fans, a host of reports have confirmed that co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi will be leaving the club this summer.
It feels like a sad day, albeit an inevitable one, so we wanted to issue a message of thanks and appreciation to two people who have played a vital role at our beloved club.
They never gave up on a takeover that transformed our club for the better – despite so many setbacks along with way and doubts it would ever get done – and have worked tirelessly over the past three years to improve us on and off the pitch.
After years of misery under Mike Ashley, we’ll never forget their hard work securing major investment for the club, appointing key figures like Eddie Howe, negotiating sponsorship deals, exciting new signings, key contracts for existing players and exploring expansion plans at St James’ Park. Their perseverance and defiance in the face of ever-changing Premier League laws, enthusiasm for the club and everyone connected to it, engagement with supporters and passion for all things NUFC, whether it be attending games home and away, striking up a bond with Eddie Howe and the players or supporting the Women’s team through back-to-back promotions under Becky Langley, where Staveley has been a constant presence to prove how much she cares.
In three years we’ve gone from no hope under Mike Ashley to ambitious new owners. From Steve Bruce to Eddie Howe. From relegation battles to a top-four finish and Champions League football last season. From failing to sanction £1m loan fees on Hamza Choudhury to club record signings like Alexander Isak. From zero communication from the former owner to regular engagement online and in the stands. None of this happens without them.
Staveley’s comments soon after securing the club are worth revisiting: “I fell in love with Newcastle. I fell in love with the passion, the fans. It was just this incredible club. And I knew that with investment and nurturing it could become even better. We knew this is the club we should be buying.”
They haven’t just worked their socks off, they are genuinely nice people who’ve embraced the club, us fans and everything about Newcastle United during their time on Tyneside.
They gave us hope, allowed us all to dream at a time of despair, never gave up on our club and for that we are forever grateful.
Thank you 🖤🤍
Well put hopefully they stay on in some capacity

Sad news Amanda and Mehrdad are the understanding, caring, human face of our club that we badly needed. Thank you and please! please! stick around!

They should be given the freedom of the city, and be honorary board members.
We don’t want to lose them, and thanks for rescuing the club.

So much for the club keeping the fans informed as assured in their early statements. Nothing explained of the PSR saga, the Gordon issue and now the main parties of the takeover and fans favourites. We are just left with so called experts stories of them leaving? The future not looking good for positive information from the club.
