Joelinton on Eddie Howe rumours, Sandro Tonali, Newcastle future and hopes for 2024/25

Joelinton has urged Eddie Howe to reject any offer from England, believing he's a "great coach" who can take Newcastle United to the "next level."

The Brazilian feels it's "just speculation" at this stage, but accepts that it "shows how good he is" to see the FA eye up Howe after Gareth Southgate's exit. However, his message was clear. "I love him. He's changed my life. We want to stay with him."

Joelinton - who signed from Hoffenheim five years ago yesterday - also told the press how happy he is on Tyneside, saying he "loves the club" and "always wanted to stay" after finally agreeing a contract extension earlier this year. He also had good things to say about Sandro Tonali, calling the Italian a "great lad" and "great player" who "works really hard."

The 27-year-old discussed his lofty ambitions for the coming season too, revealing that we're determined to get back into the Champions League and reach another final after falling just short over the past two seasons. Read what he had to say below:

Joelinton on Eddie Howe - “We love him here, we want him here. Hopefully he will stay for many years. He’s a great coach and I know he can take us to the next level.

“It’s just speculation. They have other names as well. But to see his name with the England job shows how good he is. How well he’s done since he came here. But of course we want him to stay here for as long as possible. We want to stay with him.”

“He’s done a lot for me since day one. He’s a great coach. A great man. I love him. I have a lot of respect for him. He changed my career. He and his staff changed things. They gave me a new mentality and helped my football. They’ve definitely changed my life. I will be grateful forever.

Joelinton on Sandro Tonali - "Sandro’s a great lad. He works really hard. I hope he can really help the team this season because he’s a great player."

Joelinton on his future - “I'm very happy, I always said I wanted to stay at the club. I love the club, the city. My family is happy there, I enjoy my life there. Things are going well on the football pitch so why not stay? I’m happy to continue my journey here.”

Joelinton on his high hopes for 2024/25 - “My hopes are high for the new season with Newcastle. Last season was difficult for me with the injuries and now I want to be healthy and help the team in every respect. I want to help us get back up there again.

“We have great, high expectations (of Europe and the Champions League). We have big goals, we want to be better. We want to compete with the best. I want to be back in a final again.

“We want to be a competitive team. That’s what you want, that’s what you work for. We will hopefully have a good season.”
