Along with selling Academy-developed Geordie Elliot Anderson before the PSR deadline last month, Newcastle United also cashed in on Yankuba Minteh to avoid a breach and points deduction.
The Gambian showed what an exciting talent he was at Feyenoord, scoring 11 goals and featuring in the Champions League. Many hoped to see him in a black and white shirt this summer, but instead he’s sealed a £33m move to Brighton; where he’s not taken long to impress.
Appearing in his first game for the Seagulls today, the 19-year-old scored 15 minutes into his Brighton debut to give his new club a 1-0 lead against Kashima Antlers in their tour of Japan Japan Tour 2024. Watch the goal below:

Looking at the reaction on social media from Brighton fans, they’re already loving what they’ve seen, praising his pace, work rate and calm finish after he cut in from the right, sat down defenders and slotted home calmly on his first appearance for the club.
Sales were needed to avoid a points deduction, but it feels like this one is going to hurt…
I think we sold a Gem of a player! Maybe we will buy him back for £80 million in two years time! Some things just don’t change at Newcastle!Joke of a club we had a lot of players to get rid off but we sell a Super Star in the making.Maybe Mr Bournemouth will Raid his old club Bournemouth!

Jonboy – we can only sell players other clubs want to buy man.
How long have we’ve been trying to move on players like Fraser, Hayden & Hendrick. We tried to move Miggy to Saudi in January and he refused to move – there’s nowt we can do about that either.
We pushed to back Howe & got into £70m of hock for it. It was this lad and Anderson or Gordon, Bruno or Isak.
This lad may go on to be a very good player. But until he’s doing this against the likes of City, Liverpool and Arsenal I won’t be too bothered. So far he’s done okay in a poor Dutch league & scored a pre season goal against a Japanese side none of us have heard of – hes not getting compared to Cole Palmers switch from City to Chelsea just yet.
