13 players missing as Newcastle squad arrive in Japan - Explanation for each absence
Newcastle United have touched down in Tokyo, with the 29-man squad arriving in Japan after a long-haul flight on Sunday.
Before we get to the players absent - most of which have a good explanation - this is the group of players Eddie Howe has selected for upcoming games on Tuesday and Saturday in the J.League Series:
Goalkeepers - Pope, Vlachodimos, Dubravka, Ruddy, Gillespie
Defenders - Burn, Schar, Kelly, Livramento, Hall, Ashby, Lewis, Krafth, Thompson, Heffernan.
Midfielders - Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton, Longstaff, Willock, Harrison, J.Miley, Turner-Cooke.
Attackers - Isak, Barnes, Almiron, J.Murphy, Sanusi, , Parkinson.
Now for the players absent, where we've counted 13 Mags not involved in our trip to Asia.
Injured - Callum Wilson (back), Lewis Miley (broken foot), Sven Botman (ACL), Jamaal Lascelles (ACL), Matt Targett (Achilles rehab), Joe White (back)
Granted extended break - Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon
Not in Howe's plans - Ryan Fraser, Isaac Hayden
No explanation / potential loan lined up? - Garang Kuol, Alex Murphy, Miodrag Pivas
Bruno Guimaraes has rejoined the squad from his extended break, Paul Mitchell has travelled - presumably to continue recruitment talks with Howe and assess squad - while loan coordinator Shola Ameobi can also be seen in the video below.
Our first game of the Japan tour sees us take on Urawa Reds (Wednesday, 31 July, 11:30 BST) before facing Yokohama F. Marinos on Saturday 3 August (13:00 BST).
