Just 48 hours ago, the Daily Mail’s revealed that Steve Bruce was ‘closing in’ on the Jamaica job following Heimir Hallgrímsson departure after their disappointing Copa America campaign.
However, the former Newcastle United boss has been pipped to the job by another Steve with strong links to Newcastle United, with Steve McClaren now appointed the new manager of the Jamaican National Team on Thursday night.
The 63-year-old has had spells at Derby, Maccabi Tel Aviv and QPR since he was sacked by Newcastle in 2016, but has most recently worked as part of Erik Ten Hag’s coaching staff at Manchester United. But after two years at Old Trafford, the former Toon boss has taken on his second stint in international management after previously working for England between 2006-2007.
A penny for Steve Bruce’s thoughts, who remains out of work and seemingly on the lookout for a job…despite telling Newcastle fans he was done with management a few years ago!
