Marc Guehi has spoken out for the first time following a flurry of bids from Newcastle for the Crystal Palace star, insisting he is focused on Sunday’s trip to Brentford and flattered by yesterday’s praise from Steve Parish.
It was revealed earlier this week that Newcastle had launched a bid worth £60m for the centre-back – £55m plus £5m in add-ons – but Parish’s comments on Tuesday suggested it would not be enough to tempt the Eagles to sell.
Speaking to Sky Sports about our interest and his focus going into the new season, Guehi said: “I can [focus]. I have never really been one to look too far into myself if that makes sense.
“Focusing on what is truly important (Brentford on Sunday) is always important. I don’t like being the centre of attention at all, I prefer to stay in the back and let other people get the limelight. It is important to make sure that for the rest of the season as a team we are at it.”
Responding to comments from Parish – who called him a “superstar” yesterday – Guehi added: “I am humbled by that. But some really kind words from the chairman. For somebody that is such a big part of this football club to say something like that is amazing for somebody like me.
“I told you earlier I am not sure I am a superstar but really kind words. Since the beginning it has been amazing here, a real culture of togetherness here, from the Academy, women and men’s, we are all on the same page. It is an amazing place to be. “I am (enjoying life), it is good to be back here. It is good to be back playing again amongst team-mates.
“It was good to get a nice little run out in front of the fans again. But all positive. It starts up again, exciting for everybody. Long season ahead now but everybody raring to go.”

The fact he’s being put up for official interviews a few days before the season starts shows a deal is nowhere near close and suggests he’s not about to force a move.
Either we up our offer in a bid to match Palace’s asking price or we move on to other targets – and quickly.
Over rated and the toon need to walk away from him when they keep using the price

He will either stay at Palace for the rest of his career or Palace will lose out by quite a few million in a years time.
We should move on, in today’s psr and ffp you can’t blame Palace for pushing their luck though.
We would do the same.
Although he is not as good as Virgil van **** who cost £75 million in 2018 it gives you some perspective of how far we are behind the corrupt 6

I’d rather spend £60m on a world class right winger
