Miguel Almiron move collapses after London talks – Fabrizio Romano

According to Fabrizio Romano, MLS side Charlotte FC have left negotiations for Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron, as the two clubs were unable to agree a fee.

Romano reports that there was an initial agreement on the terms of his contract with the North Carolina club, but they were unable to strike a deal after talks in London with Newcastle; who were requesting a fee that was ‘too high’ for Charlotte FC.

The MLS’ transfer deadline is at midnight tonight, meaning Toon chiefs must now look elsewhere if they wish to move on the 30-year-old Paraguayan.

Last night CBS’ Tom Bogert reported that Charlotte FC’s opening offer came in at around $10m (£7.8m), but fell well short of Newcastle’s $20m (£15.5m) valuation. However, it seems no compromise has been reached and the MLS side have walked away from a deal.

Time will tell if long-term interest from Saudi Arabia re-emerges, although it remains to be seen if Miggy would entertain a late move to the Middle East after his reluctance in January.

  1. Olly, iv been using your platform to voice my frustrations. I think Eales and Mitchell have been absolutely **** since they joined the club. Incompetent, ineffective, impotent. My only hope is Eddie Howe doesn’t get disillusioned with their ineptitude.

  2. Eddie has stated several times that almiron is an important player .. Mitchell and co have done good business with the women’s and under 21 squad but I agree with A it’s not been a very good look on the senior side

  3. With this deal off the table, Newcastle might need to consider alternative options if they still hope to transfer Almirón. Saudi clubs could come into play given their previous fnf interest, but Almirón’s reluctance in January suggests he may not be eager to pursue that path.
