Fabian Schar is fit to start this Saturday’s opening game of the season against Southampton – despite fears he could be a doubt after hobbling off in our final pre-season friendly last weekend.
The Swiss international limped off in the final few minutes of our 1-0 win over Stade Brest. Howe was hoping he’d be OK and it seems he’s made a quick recovery, with officials photos from the club’s website showing the 32-year-old taking part in full training sessions on Wednesday.
Schar was unable to continue last Saturday after initial treatment – a real concern with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles both long-term absentees after ACL surgery – but it seems he’ll be fine to partner either Dan Burn or Lloyd Kelly this weekend.

Speaking about Schar after he limped off in last weekend’s win over Brest, Howe said: “I haven’t spoken with Fabby yet, I hope it’s not too bad. It seemed like an ankle twist. He obviously felt a little discomfort but we hope he’ll be OK.”
Schar always gives you the jitters with knocks, that’s why we desperately need a RHCB.
This will only get worse as he ages.
