Sky Sports: Newcastle shortlist £25m centre-back as potential alternative to Marc Guehi

According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are considering a move for Trevoh Chalobah if a deal can’t be agreed for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

They report that Aston Villa are also keen on the £25m-rated Chelsea centre-back, identifying him as a potential signing should Diego Carlos leave following interest from Fulham.

However, Sky Sports report that we’re also admirers of Chalobah, who is believed to be on our list of options after the club had a third bid worth £60m rejected for Guehi this week.

Chalobah, 25, is free to leave Chelsea after being excluded from their pre-season tour of the USA last month, suggesting he’s being forced out by new Blues boss Enzo Maresca.

He’d add some pace, versatility and another right-footed option to our back line and would be considerably cheaper than Guehi, but it may not go down if we move from one of the stars of Euro 2024 for a player who has been pushed down the pecking order at Chelsea.

  1. Getting fed up with this transfer speculation – feels like the Ashley days are back! All talk and no action – what’s happening at the Toon? Great squad but like last season it isn’t deep enough to cover any injuries! PSR is crippling anyone and everyone that wants to challenge the top 4, but ultimately is crippling the Premier League entertainment offer – change needed!

  3. Would be happy with this, he has a couple of things over Guehi imo his ability to cope with high balls into the box and his passing range.
He’s also quick and good in the tackle and the fact we could pick him up for 25m to 30m seems like a no brainer.

  4. Sharpy17:
So we could buy Chalobah AND Madueke for £55m – or Guehi for £65m

Apperently not, as Chelsea are valuing Madueke at £60M. I think we’re being cut out by the septics.

  5. Crystal Palace ought to be definitive about their intention re Marc Guel. Their game has gone on too long. They ought yo be definitve as to whether they plan to deal with Newcastle on a new deal. Just be upfront.
