In an in-depth piece on all things Newcastle United, The Mail’s Craig Hope and Sami Mokbel have revealed that RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan is the latest player of interest if a move for Marc Guehi collapses.
He reports that we are moving closer to striking a deal with Crystal Palace for the England international and expect to reach an agreement before our trip to Bournemouth this Sunday. However, we’ve been here before in this three-week-long saga, making the Simakan link an intriguing one if Palace continue to drag their heels.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has been linked with a move to England for a few years now and ticks plenty of boxes as an athletic, right-footed centre-back who could also bring some versatility to our back line, with 14 of his 42 appearances coming at right-back last season.
Paul Mitchell did not sign Simakan during his time at Leipzig, but our new sporting director will have good links with the Bundesliga club following his time in Germany. If a deal for Guehi did collapse and we targeted the former France U21 international, that could work in our favour.

Time to move on Palace are hanging on for as much as they can get and after his last performance there are better out there for less. Only advantage I can see is premiere league experience but a better player will acclimatise quickly and not see the difference.
