Newcastle eye two signings and overseas options as Toon wait for ‘dominoes to fall’

According to Mark Douglas at the i, Newcastle United are pushing to secure two new signings before Friday’s 11pm deadline.

Despite Eddie Howe stating this morning that we “probably” can’t bring in a centre-back and a right-winger this week, Douglas reveals that we are exploring the European market for a right-sided attacker after being ‘priced out’ of moves for domestic targets.

No names have been mentioned in the piece, but loan deals – or loan-to-buy options – may be one to watch and the only realistic route to signing a right-winger should Marc Guehi sign for around £70m.

It seems PSR won’t allow us to bring in more than two new additions, yet Douglas does mention that we remain keen on Burnley’s James Trafford; who is seen as a potential long-term successor to Nick Pope.

However, he reports that we are ‘waiting for dominoes to fall’ when it comes to outgoings, as exits for Miguel Almiron – who is available for around £15m – Martin Dubravka and/or Odysseas Vlachodimos could help us bring in a right-winger and revisit a deal for Trafford following loan-to-buy rumours earlier this week.

  1. I really don’t know what we are doing in this window its getting bloody ridiculous . We need to give palace a deadline and stop pissing about because if they pull the plug in the last few hours we won’t have time for replacement. Ive watched guehi last couple games and i dont know if hes putting himself under pressure because of our interest but hes looked a bit dodgy to me.We don’t need a keeper as we must have a dozen by now so that’s not a necessity and dwindles available funds. Last of all calvert lewin . I can’t believe that a club that is looking to move forward can seriously consider a player of his calibre. I watched him the other day and pundits all saying how much running he does but never say how actually shit he is when he’s on the ball which is probably down to him having wet biscuits for legs. Calum Wilson, Eddie howe did the same at Bournemouth giving him long contracts even though he barely played . If isaak gets injured there’s a lot of weight on the young guys shoulders. Moan over ( for now)

  2. Total bloody mess this one transfer and it appears if Howe as more money is view is another goal keeper, what is he going to do name 6 keepers and line them on the goal line. For gods sake man

  3. Have to agree about Calvert Lewin. This guy is bang average at best. Too slow, doesn’t score goals and is injury prone. Have we really come to this?
We should have gone for a cheaper central defender option and made our move for Madueke who is an excellent performer. We could have had him at the start of the window for about 30-35 million. His hat trick at the weekend has now added another 20+ million onto his value. 30 million for Anderson (a cracking defender) from Palace and Madueke for the price of Guehi? It’s not rocket science. It just takes someone with some vision and courage.
Why do we faff about ‘considering’, ‘looking at’, ‘monitoring’ and ‘eyeing’ players when other clubs just go out and get them quickly. I get the feeling that Mitchell et al are too scared and indecisive to make a move and get on with it.
It seems that nothing has really changed at this club. It really isn’t good enough and like Kevin once said ” It wasn’t this way in the brochure”.

  4. If he plays tonight I would sack it off . Hopefully they have a plan B.
    Amanda would have one!!!
If they don’t have a plan B they need a good kicking!!! FGS sort it out!!! Look at what Ashworth is doing for them lot!!!
    😡😡😡😡

  5. Toon transfer policy is embarrassing we always leave it too late just shows how unprofessional we are as a club I’m afraid it doesn’t look like it will get any better in the future no wonder Ashworth bailed out you have to doubt our owner’s we should have pulled out of the Guehi move long ago.

  6. My opinion is… Newcastle are in a sticky situation right now because they are not allowed to spend the money they want because they don’t generate the same income as other teams (yet)
So they also can’t afford to make mistakes. They need to buy the right players at the right price when they become available.
I’m not sure that a player scoring a hat trick adds 20 million to his price but I am pretty sure that the price goes up if we make an enquiry.
Clearly they think Guehi is the right player (age, ability, attitude, experience etc) but is he available now at the right price? Maybe we should walk away and come back in a year when he has less to go on his current contract? Or should they try to sign a stop gap player they don’t really want because the price is better?

  7. Newcastle couldn’t sign on the dole let alone sign a brilliant striker or winger for that matter

  8. It would appear that Howe had a list pre-Mitchell and he won’t deviate from it even though the PSR fire sale destroyed the plan. Let’s be honest the PSR problem was of Howe and Staveley’s making, they gambled on getting back into the champions league. They had to sell in January but Howe refused to sell any players, and still does. Not selling players in January has resulted in loosing good young players and Gordon and Trippier wanting out. Madueke and other good CBs could have been bought early doors for a combined 65 to 70 mill but Howe didn’t want them. It looks like Howe has lost the plot or wants out and off to England or Tottenham. It’s a drama that hopefully may have a positive twist come the end of the transfer window.

  9. Gordon and trippier have never wanted out 😂🤡. The problem if true is Howe insisting on prem league players and now they are overpriced with a few days left they are looking abroad!! .., Howe did well but Newcastle are not Bournemouth and his policy has backfired .. if it don’t work he and Mitchell should be out .. Emery is doing well and recruiting well not scrabbling around desperately for Calvin Lewis 🤡 or being mugged by the palace dell boy

  10. I am disappointed and frustrated with the transfer window thus summer but I’m also really concerned about Eales and Mitchell on how they are running things background wise. Their true colours are going to come out if they don’t bring something positive out of this summer window. Howe hasn’t got much to do with the players we bring in either so we need to bear that in mind, he would have given a shopping list to Mitchell but thays probably it. PSR is playing a major part too but we’re keeping all our eggs in one basket too with one player. I’m praying that we have other targets in mind because if the Guehi deal falls through which let’s face it could still do after all this pushing back and forth, we may have another terrible transfer window to seek improvements and depth within the team
