Kieran Trippier releases emotional statement after official England announcement

Kieran Trippier has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33.

After 54 caps for the Three Lions and competing in four major tournaments, he’s called time on his England career, joining Fabian Schar (Switzerland) in retiring from the international scene ahead of the upcoming international break next month.

In an emotional statement shared on his Instagram page, he said: ‘I never thought as a young lad from Bury that I would play for my country let alone achieve 54 caps. It’s been one of the biggest honours of my life to represent my country at 4 major tournaments

‘I want to say a big thank you to Gareth and all the staff that have worked with the England squad for the trust they have placed in me throughout the years.

‘Thank you to all my team mates – we have had some very special moments reaching 2 Euro finals, and a World Cup semi final and I am sure in the future this group of players will win a major tournament.

‘I want to wish Lee, the coaching staff and the team all the best for the future . And finally a big thank you to all the England fans for your incredible support travelling all over the world to support us and keeping us going in the difficult moments. Trips.’

Trippier was a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England side and will not be available for selection when interim boss Lee Carsley named his squad for next month’s internationals.

  1. Disappointing it had to end trophy less.

He’s been a great servant to the National team at both RB and LB.

As a footballer it must be the greatest achievement being selected to represent your Country, so hopefully it’s the pride that is the lasting feeling.

As a Newcastle fan, i selfishly hope this prolongs his club career as well coz he’s still a top top player.
