Journalist confident Marc Guehi signs – but Newcastle move may rely on Palace deals

Despite some lingering doubts, The Mail’s Craig Hope remains confident that Marc Guehi will sign for Newcastle United before Friday’s 11pm deadline.

Speaking on his Youtube channel after last night’s Carabao Cup win at the City Ground, Hope stated that Palace are now ‘waiting’ to get a centre-back before sanctioning Guehi’s sale and believes they are closer to doing exactly that after making progress of their own on Wednesday. If they get the player (or players) needed, he “expects Guehi to arrive at Newcastle United”, suggesting his big-money move to St James’ Park is very much in the pipeline.

“My information is…again…I still think Marc Guehi will happen,” he said. “Palace were waiting to get the centre-half in. I think there has been movement on that today in terms of them agreeing a price. Once that happens I do expect Guehi to arrive at Newcastle United.”

Crystal Palace are reportedly close to announcing the £17.5m signing of Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix, but it remains to be seen if he’s coming in to replace Joachim Anderson; who sealed a £30m move to Fulham last week.

Let’s hope Craig is right and the delay is simply Newcastle waiting for Palace to get their ducks in a row before allowing him to leave.

  1. So much so for Mitchell being an experienced negotiator.
So much so for Newcastle having a recruitment strategy and getting things done.
    It is absolutely shambolic.
