'No deal' - Newcastle fail with deadline day bid as updates arrive on Anthony Elanga

It looks like Newcastle United's late move for Anthony Elanga has been unsuccessful following talks with Nottingham Forest.

TalkSPORT initially claimed that Newcastle were hopeful of striking a late deal, with some outlets claiming that the player was keen, but a host of reporters have issued a pretty bleak update with less than four hours remaining until the window shuts.

Here's what a host of journalists have had to say, featuring Forest's 'silly' asking price, a failed £35m offer and the two clubs disagreeing on a potential part-exchange:

Keith Downie (Sky Sports) - 'Told Newcastle’s approach for Elanga was met by a Forest expectation of a Newcastle player in return. But that wasn’t something that could be agreed by Newcastle. The move never went beyond discussion stage.'

Luke Edwards (The Telegraph) - 'No deal. Newcastle are no longer talking to Forest, who demanded cash plus a player to proceed. There was an enquiry, no bid was made. Over before it started.'
