Garang Kuol – Could this now explain why Aussie talent has not landed loan move?

It was a strange summer at Newcastle United. Not just because of the lack of incomings, but the limited number of outgoings, where we also saw a few youngsters fail to land loan moves.

One player falling into this category is Garang Kuol; the Aussie talent in need of careful management after previous spells at Hearts and Volendam didn’t quite go to plan over the past season and a half.

Many were expecting to see him secure a third temporary switch, with pressure on loan boss Shola Ameobi to get it right this time. However, almost a week on from last Friday’s deadline, he’s yet to find a move.

Newcastle may have decided to keep him on Tyneside, although it could be that an injury has scuppered his hopes after Eddie Howe hinted at a knee problem at the end of July:

“We’re waiting to see what happened with him,” Howe said during our tour of Japan on July 31st. “He’s got a little bit of swelling in his knee so we’re not sure if he’ll be okay.”

Since then, we’ve not seen him feature in any pre-season friendlies or even for our U21 side, who are three games into the Premier League 2 season.

Certain windows are still open – we saw Serbian talent Miodrag Pivas complete a loan move to Willem II earlier this week – but it’s not yet clear if Kuol is being kept on Tyneside for the sake of his development or held back due to a knee injury which appeared to flare up at the end of July.

Either way, we’re hoping the 19-year-old can have a better season for the sake of his development after a tough 18 months since he first arrived on Tyneside.

  1. I think we should be keeping hold of him and investing some of our own coaching into him.

Since we bought him we have farmed him out to different leagues in different Countries – what affect does that have on a young players development & mental fortitude.

Bring him in & let him see the club he’s signed for and what future he’s playing for.

  2. Hey Sharpy, hope you and yours are well mate.
On Kuol.. I don’t actually think he has what it takes to make it. Ive lost count of the amount of young players that come through the ranks in Australia that are the “next Harry Kewell”.
Kuol got a lot of hype over a short period of time and was snapped up by Newcastle. I think we jumped the gun as the lad has not proved himself over any long period of time. I for one don’t expect to ever see him in the first team.

  3. Aussie – hello mate, all good thanks hope you are too 👍🏼.

You may be right mate, but what chance does the lad have getting pushed from club to club.

I don’t see the harm in investing some time into coaching him & making him feel wanted. If his true potential isn’t quite PL levels, he may still be worth £10-15m.

I know that’s not mixing it with the big boys, but it’s turning a profit and that’s what the club need to start doing 🤷🏼‍♂️.

  4. he has the skill set but by all accounts he hasn’t come on physically, maybe better keeping him here and working on his physicality and strength
