Botman and Willock injury update – Good and bad news on expected return dates

There’s some mixed news to share on the fitness of Sven Botman and Joe Willock, who are both sidelined at present through injury.

According to The Mail’s Craig Hope, ‘hope has faded’ that Botman will be back in the next month or two, with the Dutchman now pencilled in to return in December at the earliest.

It’s believed the centre-back has made good progress following ACL surgery in March, but performance director James Bunce is not prepared to rush the 24-year-old back as he oversees our new return-to-play programmes following a nightmare season on the injury front last term.

There’s better news on Joe Willock, who is set to return soon after the international break after a second scan showed a small tear on the surface of his thigh.

Hope reports that this usually takes ‘around two weeks’ to heal, leaving him an early doubt for our trip to Wolves next Sunday but in with a great chance of being back for the games to follow against Fulham, Wimbledon and Man City.

So, we’ll have to make do with Schar, Burn, Kelly and Krafth between now and the New Year, it seems, but it’s a huge relief that Willock is OK after a number of injury setbacks ruined his 2023/24 campaign.
