Some interesting comments have emerged from Sky Sports pundit Curtis Davies, who has been full of praise for Will Osula; a striker he knows better than most following their time together at Derby.
Having came up against the 6ft 4′ Dane plenty of times in training, Davies has compared Osula to a “poor man’s Haaland”, saying h has “got everything” from an attributes perspective to become a top Premier League striker.
Obviously, Osula has a long way to go and lots to learn, but his former teammate is clearly a big fan, praising his size, power, pace, and ability with both feet, feeling sure he’ll give new boss Eddie Howe a lot to work with following his £10m move from Sheffield United.
Speaking on Sky Sports News about Osula, Davies said: “I’ve played with him and, attributes-wise, he’s got everything.
“With a coach like Eddie (Howe) there, who can nurture him and get him into that team, in the right environment and right way to push him forward, he could be a big signing come the end of the season.
“He’s big, he’s strong, he’s quick, he can score both feet, and he can go past you. I’m not going to disrespect it but he’s a bit like a poor man’s Haaland, as such.
“He’s got all those attributes. Honestly, he can be that good, he just needs the fine-tuning of a coach like Eddie Howe.”
It’s obvious he meant it as a compliment – but I find the description of a ‘poor man’s’ anything to sound more insulting.
I know a lot of people were quick to jump on poor stats when we signed this lad, but it’s obvious we were buying potential.
I’d be starting him against Wimbledon for sure, but allowing him to grow and develop – learn from Isak & Wilson because I think this boy could be a really asset for the £10m we bought him for.
