Newcastle United scouts watch RB Salzburg star – Report

According to a new report, Newcastle United have been scouting RB Salzburg defender Samson Baidoo as they look to beat some elite clubs to the exciting young talent.

This comes from HITC, who report that Newcastle scouts have been keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old centre back who made his debut for Austria last year, with Man City and Spurs also thought to be admirers.

Newcastle have been struggling with the Premier League’s financial restraints and Paul Mitchell recently hinted that we must ‘cast the net wider’ in our pursuit of hidden gems who could develop into first-team stars.

An example of this last summer saw us bring in Yankuba Minteh, who was signed for £7m after impressing scouts at Danish side Odense. As we know, he was sold to Brighton for £33m in the midst of a PSR crisis after an impressive loan spell at Feyenoord.

The scouting of Baidoo could be Newcastle looking to do a similar – even if it means turning a quick profit – and following Brighton’s transfer model that has seen them recruit gems from all over the globe and turn them into stars.

There’s also the small matter of our ongoing centre-back search after failing to sign Marc Guehi over the summer. A relatively unproven 20-year-old is unlikely to be a ready-made alternative to Guehi, but we’ll have one eye on finding a long-term replacement for Fabian Schar, coupled with the fact Jamaal Lascelles is out of contract next summer.

  1. Look into the bigger picture. Newcastle looks like being punished
By premier league and there rule’s stopping them spending big money on statement signings so yes a think there’s a rabbit away with eddy Howe and Paul Mitchell on who’s got the final say on transfers so possibly January
We might see centre back and winger that we need if they don’t then one will need to leave the club but will the pressure of the fans ask Amanda to come back if she can’t invest in new club

  2. Brighton seem to be doing good transfer business without Ashworth so he has either left a well oiled machine or he was dispensable like so many others.
What really matters is who PIF want to run things and the direction of travel they wish to travel.
Mitchell, Eales and Howe can all be replaced by PIF at any time wether they like it or not.
As fans we just have to trust their judgement is correct.
Good managers who can create a team with togetherness are hard to find, CEO’s and Directors of football perhaps not.
What is certain is due to PSR we need to grow revenues due to Ashley’s greed in order to help us deliver what the fans crave for, patience and sound decisions is the name of the game.
