According to talkSPORT, forgotten Mag Isaac Hayden was one of the British-born players that Jamaica boss Steve McClaren wanted to take a look at ahead of the 2026 World Cup – but a lack of game time could scupper his call-up hopes.
Chief reporter Alex Crook reveals that Hayden’s failure to land a summer loan move could prove costly, as he won’t play until January after being left out of Eddie Howe’s 25-man squad.
Hayden, whose contract runs until 2026, has spent time out on loan at Norwich, QPR and Belgian side Standard Liege, so there was an expectation that he would again go out on loan this summer after missing all of our pre-season friendlies.
No loan move ever materialised meaning Hayden will play no first-team football for the remainder of the year, meaning former Toon boss McClaren could opt against handing the 29-year-old a call-up for their qualification campaign.
Hayden has been at Newcastle since 2016 and the midfielder not only played a huge rule in winning promotion from the Championship but also in keeping us in the Premier League under Rafa Benitez.
The former Arsenal man has made over 170 appearances for the Magpies, however, he has not pulled on the shirt since December 2021 having been left out in the cold by Eddie Howe.
At one time he & Longstaff were impenetrable as a midfield pair.
His career has been in free fall ever since really. Never kicking on with us & always seemingly wanting that move back South.
I think he probably got offers but that would pay the wages NUFC have – and so another career falls by the wayside in favour of coin.

I think you are grasping the wrong end of the stick with this one, Reynolds.
It’s not so much that Hayden won’t play for Jamaica because he hasn’t got a club, as he hasn’t got a club because he’s 5hyt@. He’s past it, and like Fraser he has had options available to him that would allow him to showcase his talents, but refuses to take a pay cut from his reputed 25K a week salary at SJP.
Quite comically, in another article someone was saying how good Schar was , which met with congrats from a fan saying, “another one of Rafas signings”.
Well for every Schar that Rafa signed, he also signed 5 Haydens.
