Newcastle set for Chelsea clash if Toon beat Wimbledon – Full last 16 Carabao Cup draw

Newcastle United have learned who next awaits them in the Carabao Cup should they beat AFC Wimbledon on October 1st.

Eddie Howe’s side will potentially face Chelsea at St James’ Park in the fourth round of this season’s competition, after the Blues won 5-0 against Barrow on Tuesday night.

The tie will take place in the week commencing the 28th of October and, should Newcastle advance to play Chelsea, will be no more than three days after the two teams meet in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on the 27th of October.

All of this is dependent on Newcastle beating Wimbledon next week, after their clash had to be rescheduled following on from severe flooding at the Dons’ stadium.

This could be a rematch of last year’s quarter-final between the two sides, which Chelsea managed to win after a penalty shootout at Stamford Bridge, giving Newcastle the perfect opportunity to enact a measure of revenge at St James’ Park should they progress.

Elsewhere in the draw, Manchester City will travel to Spurs, Manchester United will host Leicester at Old Trafford, and Brighton will look to end Liverpool’s trophy defence at the AMEX Stadium. See the last 16 draw in full here:
