Paul Mitchell ‘keen’ to bring two Ligue 1 stars to Newcastle – Report

Newcastle could be considering a move for young winger Maghnes Akliouche, with Sporting Director Paul Mitchell said to very keen on the Frenchman and Lille striker Jonathan David.

According to Graeme Bailey at TBR, Newcastle’s continued pursuit of a new right-winger has seen them set their sights on the Monaco forward, who recently attracted a lot of attention for his Champions League heroics against Barcelona.

“Mitchell knows the 22-year-old well and it is believed that he retains an interest in bringing Akliouche to Newcastle.”

Akliouche, who was recently part of Thierry Henry’s Olympic squad, is described as “versatile” by TBR Football and “able to play centrally nas a number 10 or out on the right wing, cutting in on his left foot.”

The Monaco man is of course not the only Ligue 1 talent reportedly linked with a move to St James’ Park, with Jonathan David continuing to attract interest from abroad ahead of his contract with Lille coming to an end next summer.

Last week, Newcastle were said to have been in talks with the Canadian striker, who scored a sensational hat trick against Le Havre at the weekend to become the second top scorer in France so far this season.

TBR stated that Lille “would be keen to sell David in January rather than losing him for nothing in six months time”, suggesting he could be one to watch in the New Year if our interest is genuine

  1. Not a very auspicious win against Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup a 1-0 win from a penalty, would have hoped for better, not a thrashing but 3-0 would have been more in keeping with their relative positions in their leagues.
