Nail on the head from Alan Shearer as Newcastle talent receives special mention

Alan Shearer has picked out Lewis Hall for special praise and rightly so, with our former No.9 selecting the left-back in his Premier League Team of the Week.

It’s been a mixed start to the season for the former Chelsea talent, but he delivered his best display of the season in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Man City as Anthony Gordon’s spot kick saw us take a point against the Champions.

It took a big team effort to contain City and Hall was outstanding, delivering a much-improved defensive display against Bernardo Silva and Savinho, while also showing confidence and quality in possession to wriggle out of tight spaces, find the right pass to get us on the front foot or break forward with the ball.

On Hall’s performance, Shearer said: “A really solid performance, helping to limit a free-scoring Manchester City side to just a single goal.”

Hopefully this can act as a turning point in Hall’s season and he can nail down that starting spot at left-back, as he has all the potential to become an England international if he can iron out some of those defensive lapses and continue to deliver performances of this level.

Elsewhere in Shearer’s TOTW there were spots for four Spurs stars after their 3-0 win at Man Utd, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer following FOUR goals on Saturday and Everton’s Dwight McNeil; one to watch this weekend after his brace in a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
