Even after protracted, frustrating negotiations in the summer, Newcastle United are set to continue their pursuit for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, where it’s believed “Crystal Palace will be more willing to sell.”
Courtesy of the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, a £50m proposal could see the two clubs get further along in negotiations, with Palace’s ownership group said to understand the business sense behind selling the Eagles’ top asset with only 18 months left to go on his contract.
Hope writes “We understand an approach close to Newcastle’s initial valuation of around £50m would probably see progress made in the new year. If so, sources say, it would have to happen early in the window, given Palace’s need to strengthen their squad elsewhere.”
January would look to be the opportune time for Eddie Howe’s side to make their approach, with Hope believing that Liverpool and Manchester City are more likely to show an interest in the summer 2025 window, leaving the Magpies potentially as the sole bidders for the England international.
Serie A giants Juventus are also believed to be interested in Guehi’s signature, particularly after the season-ending injury to Gelson Bremer in the Champions League, but it’s so far unclear on if Thiago Motta’s team have the funds necessary.
One major obstacle Newcastle may have to consider is Steve Parish, with the Palace Chairman “said to have enjoyed stringing the Magpies along, on the back of their failed attempt to take his sporting director Dougie Freedman at the end of last season.” Hope adds that the stalling in negotiations infuriated Sporting Director Paul Mitchell.
Despite a poor start to the season for both Guehi and Palace, who are still winless in the Premier League after their defeat to Everton this past weekend, the London side will no doubt still value Guehi and Eberechi Eze as top targets for many clubs as well as fundamentals to any chance of success for them this season, so Newcastle will no doubt have to act swiftly if they want their long-term target.
This is absolute rubbish, it is quite clear if Chelsea, Liverpool or Man Utd come in for him, it has been indicated he will move to a “bigger club” who do not have the PSR restriction /problems we have had placed upon us.

It’s not clear at all that any club wants him .. there were no bids a few months ago .. though it’s reported he is keen to move to Newcastle I hope he don’t as he is not that good .. his performances this season have been bang average ., better alternatives in Europe

Let him rot at palace he would have pushed for a move if he wanted to come to newcastle.

Maybe he was showing respect to the club that pays his wages and the Crystal Palace fans if the club still want him let’s support it but we can’t let it drag on all January got to be done early if the report is true

Is that like Anthony Gordon showed respect to the club that paid his wages?
It’s a good thing not every player showed respect, otherwise there would be no transfers.
Oh, apart from when the clubs get fed up with them.

Could also be the way Guehi is his personality every human is different byker bill

I hope not since Anderson left it’s proved that he was the one organising that defence and Guehi has looked nothing like the superstar Parish praised him to be.
Absolutely glorious(Quote)
for reference even Bramble looked good with Woodgate next to him
