According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has no interest in taking the England job amid rumours he is one of FA’s favourites to replace Gareth Southgate.
Southgate departed England after eight years and four major tournaments, leaving Lee Carsley to take up the role as head coach on an interim basis while the FA decide on who to hire.
Carsley himself is believed to be very much in the running, though the 2-1 defeat to Greece on Thursday night certainly won’t have done his chances any favours.
Howe is one of a handful of potential coaches who could be offered the role, along with the likes of Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino, but he’s settled at Newcastle and keen to take us further.
This will come as good news for both the Newcastle fans and owners who have had to endure a summer of uncertainty and can now hopefully focus on progressing in the league and targeting a couple of big signings for January.
He’s past his sell by date at SJP and jumping to take the England job would be much better than him being dumped by PIF
A win / win situation, which is more than I can see us doing if he stays.
And your choice to replace him would be?
