Anthony Gordon update - Eddie Howe reveals injury latest ahead of Chelsea cup tie
Eddie Howe has issued an update on the injury front this morning as we build up to tomorrow night's Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea at St James' Park.
Speaking to the North-East press pack just a few moments ago, the boss shared some good news on Anthony Gordon's groin issue, with a recent scan showing that the injury is NOT serious and may allow him to play on Wednesday.
On Gordon's availability, Howe said: "He has been for a scan, we are hopeful the injury isn’t serious, let’s see how he is today. It was in training on Friday, nothing serious, sometimes you get these things from time to time.
"There is a chance he could make Wednesday, but we have to make the right decision. We have Arsenal coming up very quickly (Saturday) and have to make sure we don't do any damage to it."
The winger missed Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea after feeling his groin in training last Friday. It would be a huge boost to have our 2023/24 player of the season back tomorrow night, but it seems he will be assessed today and monitored with two games in four days in mind.
Elsewhere, Callum Wilson (back/hamstring) remains out, with Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles also continuing their recoveries from ACL surgery.
