Newcastle have been rewarded for their latest cup heroics beating Chelsea at St James’ Park with a quarter-final draw at home to Brentford.
Into the last eight for the third year in a row, we’ve managed to avoid the other four remaining ‘Big Six’ sides in Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and Man Utd, but Brentford remain a tough test after their free-scoring start to the season.
Our opponents booked their place in the next round of the competition thanks to a penalty shootout win over Sheffield United on Tuesday night.
We notably played the Bees in the 2020/21 EFL Cup when they were still a Championship side, and when Josh DaSilva in particular proved to be a menace against Steve Bruce’s squad.
Elsewhere, Tottenham will host Manchester United after Spurs once again upset Pep Guardiola and Manchester City in North London. Arsenal will host Crystal Palace, and Liverpool will travel to Southampton.
The tie will be played in the week commencing the 16th of December, affording us a seven week period to focus on the league and continue the push for Europe.
