The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has issued an update on Newcastle’s transfer situation ahead of the January window, revealing the latest on Marc Guehi after confirming our interest in Bryan Mbeumo and the club’s ‘grave’ PSR situation.
In what is described as a ‘bleak financial outlook’ where any big-money move this winter would need to be followed by a significant sale next summer, United would appear to be hamstrung by PSR rules as the club desperately needs to increase its revenues if it is to compete at the highest level and fill the glaring gaps in the squad.
The report highlights that Newcastle had been expected to have manoeuvrability in the transfer market after the recent Guehi saga showed the club’s willingness to spend big on the perceived ‘right player’, but the failure to move on deadwood, aging senior players on large contracts, and a bumper renewal for Anthony Gordon have pushed PSR calculations right back against the wire.
Edwards states that a renewed bid for Guehi has been discussed, but it would require ‘Palace to come to the table first’ and approach United – who feel they were messed about by the Eagles in the summer.
From Guehi’s side, his representatives are reportedly advising him to stay put until the summer when he will have just 12 months remaining on his contract and his asking price will be significantly reduced. This suggests the player is being encouraged to keep his options open, with any cut-price fee likely to attract other suitors at next summer.
The report does contain some good news too. There have been reassurances from PIF that future investment in Newcastle will not be impacted by a recently announced reduction in overseas spending, meaning there will be no impact on the long-term stadium plans.
Personally, this all feels a little like preparation of the fanbase for the departure of one of our big players next summer, whether it’s Bruno, Isak or Tonali is all that remains to be seen. If that really is the plan, let’s hope it’s offset by a quality signing – or two – in January.
Question: Would any of our so called big hitters be first choice in Keegans 95/96 team? Answer: No (IMO)
So if we double our money on any of them and bring in two or three even better players (in the same way Cole was traded for Ferdinand AND Gillespie) then fine by me.

Luke Edwards appears to be talking out of his a$%^ and just typical of the southern media. No doubt we will have Arsenal sniffing around Isaac and Bruno, and my question is why arent the Premier League not investigating Arsenal and their large loans that they have been receiving? Nufc are playing everything by the book when we have been discriminated by these so called rules that were brought in immediately after our takeover?
Gripe of the day over about the corrupt Premier League and so called big six!!!

Others would disagree but I feel the one we could afford to let go is Bruno and have always felt that way. Even though I love his attitude. His creative abilities are held back anyway because of his defensive midfield duties, and I feel that job could be well managed by Tonali. In midfield Tonali, Longstaff and one in front would still be quality.
Keep Isak!

Hahaha 😆 I thought you are making good point until you mentioned Longstaff, you want us to get rid of Bruno and keep Longstaff, you are not Eddie’s son 🤣 are you?

Play 4-2-3-1
Tonali and big Joe as the two move Bruno up Barnes left Flash right (until we get a good RW)
Can change it around depending on opposition move Bruno deeper or play little Joe or Flash as a ten supporting Isak dropping one of Bruno,Big Joe or Tonali.
Brighton play this system really well.

How come Chelsea can afford to assemble a squad which cost over a billion pounds and they are not breaking PIF rules. Our home attendance is far more than theirs, I don’t understand it.
