Newcastle United are working on the signing of Brazilian wonderkid William Gomes from São Paulo as the club look to continue their youth recruitment drive.
The 18-year-old winger made the step up from academy to first team in 2021 and has since made 15 appearances scoring twice, which has clearly been enough for the Magpies to take notice.
According the Brazilian outlet Global Esporte, Gomes is on our list of targets as we look to add to an already impressive catalogue of youth talents who joined the club since the takeover three years ago.
There has reportedly been informal talks held between the two clubs over a move but nothing had materialised as of yet as we look to follow the signing of Georgian talent Vakhtang Salia.
Gomes signed a new deal with the Brazilian side with a reported £100million release clause. It’s fair to say we won’t be paying anything close to that, but high release clauses are common for overseas talents.
São Paulo’s squad also includes on loan Newcastle defender Jamal Lewis who has the option to sign on a permanent deal in 2025.
You caught my attention again, Newcastle signed….only for another one for the future….when are we going to get one for the present, one for the here and now….
