Jose Mourinho contacts intermediaries over Newcastle United position – Report

According to a report from The Guardian, Jose Mourinho will be targeting the Newcastle United job should Eddie Howe leave or be sacked at any point in the future.

The Portuguese manager made it clear a couple of weeks ago that he intended on returning to the Premier League, preferably with a team not in a European competition.

Since this remark, it’s understood that Mourinho has since reached out to intermediaries to be informed should the Newcastle job become available at any point.

It’s safe to say Howe won’t be leaving any time soon, especially if his own accord with the England role now taken, after a huge couple of wins against Arsenal and Chelsea proving why he’s still the best man for the job.

While historically an incredible manager with a strong connection to Sir Bobby Robson, Mourinho’s style of football simply doesn’t get results in the modern game and whoever Howe’s successor may be should be an exciting forward thinking manager.

  1. He can dream on. Reality hurts when you were once the best but are now well past your shelf life. There is zero chance anybody running NUFC will give him a second thought. I wonder if he secretly realises that?

  3. For the record I would also like to be considered for the job after Eddie’s tenure is over. I was really good at football manager 10 years ago which make me only slightly less qualified than Jose.

Trying to stay relevant and keep his name in the press. If he was being as successful as he was in early days then the press coverage would be there.

One would hope part of Paul Mitchell’s remit is to like Brighton keep a file of candidates who’s management suits us and our players should Eddie leave. I highly doubt it does but if it includes Jose then we need a new sporting director.

  5. “Since this remark, it’s understood that Mourinho has since reached out to intermediaries …”

The beauty of this sentence (apart from the unnecessary duplication of the word “since”) is that using “it’s understood” means that Reynolds can run with the whole idea without any proof at all.
