Newcastle confirm Man Utd raid and £20m man spotted with familiar name

You may have missed it, but a new behind-the-scenes member of staff could be seen in Newcastle’s dressing room photo following our 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

On the far right of the winning photo is Luke Dickson; a senior analyst who has officially completed a move from Manchester United to Newcastle United after seeing out a period of gardening leave.

The Mail’s Craig Hope revealed last week that the boyhood Newcastle fan had agreed a move to St James’ Park earlier this year but was made to wait by Dan Ashworth (of all people!) before finally starting work at Newcastle this month.

Dickson was Man Utd’s lead academy analyst for five years and has also worked at Leicester City and Hibernian, bringing over eight years of experience working within football analytics to Eddie How’s backroom staff.

Elsewhere, Newcastle fans have picked up on an Instagram post from Copenhagen wonderkid Roony Bardghji, showing the teenage winger playing some head tennis with our very own Callum Wilson.

The pair are recovering from recent injuries, but it’s an intriguing link up given Bardghji has been tipped to join Newcastle in the past, with reports last November claiming that we sent scouts to watch the Swede in Champions League action during the 2023/24 campaign.

Since then, the 18-year-old has suffered an ACL injury, but he’s closing in on a comeback and may be one to watch as we continue our search for some of the world’s top U21 talent. If he’s made a full recovery, 2025 could be our chance to pounce on the right-winger who had attracted interest from some of Europe’s elite prior to his injury.

  2. Absolutely glorious:
Mitchell working on the not fit for purpose Data side of the club he mentioned then, good onwards and upwards.

At no time did Mitchell say that the data side of things was not fit for purpose.

    You sound surprised.
Wouldn’t you expect Ashworth to do that when we’d done it to him?

  4. He said the main transfer area not fit for purpose was the scouting side of it and pointed out that the data side was the main part lacking in the scouting network.
So yeah he never mentioned the data side of it you’re right 🤦
