Agent claims Newcastle rejected £14m bid – “He wants to stay and fight”

Miguel Almiron’s agent Daniel Campos has spoken out on the winger’s future and revealed that Eddie Howe asked for the Paraguayan to stay at Newcastle for the 2024/25 season.

Almiron, who only has one start so far in the Premier League this campaign, had been linked with the likes of Charlotte FC and Everton during the summer, but no move came to fruition for the club’s once-record signing.

Speaking to TYC Sports, Campos said “Although Miguel isn’t happy with the minutes he has in England, he wants to stay and fight at Newcastle.”

“Eddie Howe always supported him. When Miguel made a request, he asked him not to leave. It must be a tactical or temporary issue. Charlotte FC offered around $18m. We had a contract arranged with them but the Club rejected the proposal from the United States.”

Charlotte FC reportedly put in an $18m (roughly £14m) bid for the former Atlanta United Ace, but the club supposedly rejected that offer; a decision some are baffled by given our PSR issues and his lack of involvement of late.

If Campos and the reports are to be believed, then this Almiron transfer situation is eerily similar to the Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier sagas from January of last year, when the pair were retained for squad depth, only to miss large parts of the campaign for one reason or another and see their value suffer.

The right winger position is still one that needs to be addressed by Sporting Director Paul Mitchell and the club’s higher ups in January. Looking at Almiron’s lack of minutes, coupled with Anthony Gordon and Joelinton doing a job down that side, means there’s space to sell Miggy and bring in a new right-winger to take up that first-team spot.

However, Almiron’s wish to keep fighting for minutes on Tyneside must be commended despite the appealing prospects of moves to the Middle East or back to the United States.
