Newcastle ‘open’ to PSG deal on loan-to-buy basis – Report

Paris Saint-Germain are looking to send Randal Kolo Muani out on loan during the January transfer window and Newcastle United are open to negotiations, according to reports.

The French forward joined PSG from Eintracht Frankfurt for £64 million last summer following a breakout World Cup but his form has dipped, seeing him fall out of favour with head coach Luis Enrique.

According to FootballTransfers, PSG are open to including a purchase option or obligation clause in a loan deal. They report that Newcastle are ‘open’ to negotiations and one of the clubs showing interest after being linked with the 25-year-old during his Frankfurt days.

The Frenchman could be a more cost-effective short-term solution for Eddie Howe. With Callum Wilson struggling to stay fit and nearing the end of his contract, Kolo Muani could complement Alexander Isak, who is the club’s almost sole provider of goals at present.

Newcastle are short on firepower upfront and the reliance on the Sweden international is deemed a concern. The club installed Paul Mitchell as the sporting director over the summer and the Englishman has spoken about how the Magpies must now be shrewd and look at data rather than established names.

With this in mind, it’s no surprise that a loan-to-buy for Kolo Muani may appeal, although there’d be no shortage of takers with West Ham also said to be keen on the striker.

Speaking in October, Mitchell said: “Because other clubs that have adopted a different approach over time, with more intelligence, more data-informed than we are, actually prospered in this window. That’s where we have to grow to be now.

“You look at the money we have invested up to this point, £250million net over the last two-and-a-half years. Was our model in place to be able to spend more to the levels we would have liked to enhance the team? I don’t think it was, because we haven’t sold a player during that time, barring what we were forced to do through PSR.”

A loan option for Kolo Muani could make sense given his availability and ability to play across the front three. If the terms are right, maybe it’s one that the club will consider this winter.

  1. If they can get for £40 million or less then buy now, don’t mess about with a loan. Although a right footed CF he’s handy on the RW, also the left, good runner with the ball. He’ll play well with Isak playing behind him. With him in the squad you can just instruct Gordon, Isak and Kolo Muani to constantly switch positions. Better still 4231 with Gordon, Isak, Big Joe in the 3 and Muani as a 9, again go mad and switch positions throughout the game. Believe me defenders will not like having to deal with those 4 running wild at them for 90 minutes.

I totally agree with everything, but w loan deal could be the way with an option to buy, just incase he’s another one that can’t handle the pace and pressure of the Premier League 😉

  3. Top teams do not sit around waiting for other teams to offer players.
We have evolved past the stage where we are “open to offers” of cast-offs.
