Newcastle eyeing double swoop for Lyon and Lille stars – Report

With the news of Lyon’s impeding relegation sending shockwaves around the world of football, Newcastle could be one of the clubs to capitalise on the French club’s situation.

Courtesy of the i’s Mark Douglas, young attacker Rayan Cherki is believed to be a player on Newcastle’s radar alongside Lille striker Jonathan David, with Toon scouts travelling to France to watch both this season.

Its thought Newcastle are open to market opportunities heading into the winter window, but will only move for the ‘right players’, as January spending will require

Cherki is a France U21 international who has made a strong start to the season in Ligue 1 and in Europe, bagging three goals and three assists in 12 appearances so far.

The 21-year-old is a gifted talent with bags of technical ability and skill, alongside the versatility to play down either flank or even in central areas as an attacking midfielder.

His attitude has been questioned in previous years, with some questioning if he’ll ever live up to his enormous potential, giving Newcastle and Eddie Howe plenty to work with should a January move present itself.

David, 24, has been in superb form for Lille so far this season, scoring four in four Champions League outings along with seven in his opening 11 league games this term. He’s out of contract at the end of the season and was tipped to leave for a cut-price fee in January, but a free agent move next summer may be more likely if he rejects their latest contract offer.
