Newcastle linked with another Bournemouth star alongside Antoine Semenyo

Newcastle are reportedly tracking Bournemouth duo Antoine Semenyo and Marcus Tavernier ahead of the January transfer window.

It’s clear following Monday’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham that there is plenty work to be done in terms of recruitment, with attacking reinforcements needed; particularly on the right.

Fresh blood is needed and already the side have been linked with a plethora of names, although Tavernier is a new one after Sky Sports confirmed our interest in Semenyo earlier this week.

TBR Football have suggested that Eddie Howe has ambitions of prising at least one player away from his former club on the south coast, with Tavernier tracked alongside Semenyo.

Both players have impressed during the 2024/25 campaign, playing key roles in Bournemouth’s decent term so far. Semenyo has four goals and one assist in 12 Premier League appearances, while Tavernier – a left-footed winger who can play down either flank – has one goal and two assists in the same number of games as his team-mate.

Bournemouth are thought to be adamant that neither player will leave in the January transfer window as there is a belief that the Cherries can make a push for European qualification this season.

Tavernier was released by Newcastle earlier in his career and went on to join Bournemouth from Middlesbrough in a £10 million move in August 2022. As of now, he is a competent Premier League player but, ideally, the club must look to aim a little higher than the 25-year-old if they are truly hoping to be a competing at the top flight in the years to come.

Tavernier previously had this to say on his time with Newcastle, giving an indication that he might be open to a switch at some point down the line: “I grew up in Newcastle, I lived there when I was at Middlesbrough, so I know a lot about the town and the club and all the things to do with it.”
