If the latest reports from South America are to be believed, River Plate will push to sign Miguel Almiron in January in a deal that could be key to potential incomings this winter.
This comes from Soy del Millo, an Argentinian outlet dedicated to River Plate, who report that the club are determined to sign Almiron ‘no matter what’ and are desperate to hold talks with Newcastle over a potential transfer.
Earlier this week, Sky Sports reported on Newcastle’s interest in fellow right-winger Antoine Semenyo, but stated that Toon chiefs are ‘unlikely’ to sanction January signings unless someone is sold. With this in mind, it feels like Almiron could hold the key to potential incomings this winter?
Miggy has previously revealed that it is a ‘big dream’ of his to play for the South American giants, with the Paraguayan a boyhood fan who would watch all of their games with family as a young lad. “When I was a boy I watched all the games, I was very fanatical because my paternal family is Argentina. Whenever I can and the schedule allows me to watch the games with my family. I always wanted to play in River, it’s one of my big dreams.”
However, the concern comes around the fee River Plate may be willing to offer Newcastle and the wages the 30-year-old is likely to demand, according to his agent Daniel Campos.
After TyC Sports confirmed River Plate’s interest last month, Mark Douglas at the i reported that Newcastle will hold out for £15m in January, while Campos has been quoted saying: “unless another club makes a significant offer, with equivalent wages, he will stay on Tyneside for a while yet.”
Miggy still has two and a half years left on his Newcastle contract, but with game time dwindling as he enters his 30s and ‘dreams’ of a return to South America with his boyhood club, it may take a compromise on a few fronts to make this move happen.
As things stand, Newcastle may have to reduce that £15m asking price and Almiron his wage demands if they want to seal a move to Argentina, unless River Plate really are prepare to do whatever it takes to sign the former Altanta United star.
So in this season we will have spent nothing but hacks are still insisting that we need to sell to buy. So what does that mean? We will have made no profit this season?

If Newcastle can get in January over £20 million, ideally £30 million for Almiron, Murphy, Trippier, Wilson snap their hands off. That would be over £300K a week saved on wages and money that could be spent on a decent young RW player or CF. It will also free up space in the squad for under 21 players to start their transition into the team.

Miggy- great lad – is of no further use to us and ANY money received would be a bonus. He isn’t the only player to which that applies, neither.
