Newcastle sanction January exit with Miguel Almiron set to depart – Report

An update has arrived on Miguel Almiron’s future this afternoon, as The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards confirms that a January exit is on the cards.

In his latest piece, Edwards reveals that the Paraguayan will be allowed to leave this winter after falling out of Eddie Howe’s first team plans.

It’s believed the 30-year-old is seeking a new challenge away from St James’ Park after starting just one league game all season, with all parties accepting now is the time for the winger to move on.

The Telegraph report that there’s interest from abroad, with unnamed sides in Saudi Arabia and America keen on Almiron. Argentinian side River Plate have also been linked via the media in South America, but it remains to be seen if they or any other interested parties will match Newcastle’s asking price, which was recently reported to be around £15m.

Edwards reports that Newcastle have been exploring loan-to-buy options along with permanent deals for potential January signings, although Sky Sports reported earlier this week that sales could be key, increasing the need to move on the likes of Miggy.

However, based on recent comments from Almiron’s agent, Daniel Campos, the winger will only leave this winter if another club matches the wages he received at Newcastle. This may be his agent testing the waters and pushing for the best possible deal for his client, but these demands could offput interested parties in America, with MLS or Argentinian sides unlikely to meet his reported £60,000-per-week pay packet.

Campos said: “He has another two and a half years on his contract with Newcastle United. Unless another club makes a significant offer, with equivalent wages, he will stay on Tyneside for a while yet.”

  1. I want to see him go. And I don’t want to see him go. The latter being sentimentality and the former being what should happen for the best of all parties.

Will always remember that purple patch, the effort, his love for the badge, his positive presence, and that ridiculously massive smile.
