Earlier this week, The Chronicle revealed that Newcastle United sent a scout to check out an unnamed Championship talent in Coventry’s 2-2 draw with Sheffield United last Saturday.
A few days later, the identity of the player in question has now emerged, with The Mail’s Craig Hop reporting that Coventry striker Norman Bassette is on the radar of the club’s recruitment team.
Dubbed the ‘next Viktor Gykokeres’ for his similar frame, movement and skillset, along with the fact he’s catching the eye at Coventry, Hope reveals that Newcastle scouts not only watched him score in last weekend’s draw with the Blades but also in previous Championship games at Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
After impressing in the second tier following a £2.5million from Ligue 2 side Caen over the summer, Bassette was handed his first cap for the Belgian senior team earlier this month, where he came off the bench in a UEFA Nations League clash with Israel.
