As revealed by The Mail’s Craig Hope, Newcastle’s head of development Jack Ross has been promoted to ‘a key strategic role’ where he will now be working closely with sporting director Paul Mitchell.
The former Sunderland manager will work towards building a network of partner clubs for Newcastle, which our owners believe to be key in building a global brand somewhat similar to the City Group.
Hope states that Newcastle’s plan is to ‘forge longstanding relationships’ with partner clubs that ‘involve the sharing of resource and ideas and gives Newcastle trusted homes for their players to progress’, and they want Ross to help oversee it.
The 48-year-old is understood to be highly regarded from those within the club from his previous work developing the academy and they even believe that he could be a future sporting director himself.
The report adds that Ross’ personality and knowledge is perfect for helping to expand the club overseas and building valuable connections around the world, with this project thought to be a step in the right direction towards our eventual multi-club model plans.
A further part of his new role will be to find a club for new signing Vakhtang Salia, as it’s believed the teenage talent, who will join in the summer from Dinamo Tbilisi, is expected to have a loan move already agreed before he arrives.
