Newcastle United are in need of reinforcements after a lack of first-team investment in 2024, and with the January window right around the corner transfer rumours are beginning to intensify.
PSR is once again proving to be a major obstacle in bringing in new faces, with Eddie Howe recently confirming that sales will be key if we wish to bring in any new faces.
A right-winger is the top priority by all accounts and rightly so, but strikers remain one to watch after Callum Wilson’s latest two-month injury and a highly-rated centre forward impressing in Germany is the latest name to be linked this week.
Newcastle join race for Nuremberg striker
According to Sky Sports’ German reporter Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle United are one of a handful of Premier League clubs who are interested in signing Nuremberg attacker Stefanos Tzimas.
Tzimas is actually only on loan at the 2. Bundesliga side from Greek club PAOK, but Plettenberg claims that Nuremberg are planning to activate his €18m buy option with the intention of selling him on again in the summer.
The teenager has so far accumulated seven goals and two assists in his 13 league appearances, catching the attention of Chelsea and Aston Villa alongside Newcastle.
Tzimas could be perfect Wilson replacement?
Should Newcastle retain Alexander Isak in the summer – this may be heavily dependent on how the rest of the season plays out – then it is imperative that Wilson is replaced.
The 32-year-old is injured again, out of contract next summer and no longer someone we can rely on, so it’s not surprise we are now being linked with strikers who could potentially replace the former Bournemouth star.
In Tzimas, we may feel the Greek international is someone who could learn a lot from Isak; one of the best strikers in Europe and the complete package as a centre-forward with so much to his game.
This will be especially important if we are back competing in Europe next year, as we’d likely need another backup option along with Will Osula to help share the load
Tzimas is widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents in Greece and will certainly be looking to make a move to a big club in the near future, so it’s one to keep an eye on. Watch a few clips of him in action below:
I’m all for recruiting the top young talent out there at the moment – as long as they are good enough and ready to go into the first team when needed.
With Wilson out and on his way out we need a forward who can compete with & back up Isak when needed. Is Osula that forward? – well I’d like to see him give the chance to prove one way or another.
Personally I’d rather see us sign Jonathon David. I know he’d cost a lot more but I think he’d be first team ready sooner than this lad and Osula.
