Newcastle set mammoth Alexander Isak asking price after Arsenal interest - Report
Newcastle United have suffered a fair bit with the Premier League’s PSR rules in the last couple of seasons which has not only limited who we can bring in but has forced our hand in moving players out.
Both Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh were moved on in the summer to avoid a points deduction, meaning we lost two young players who have since shown a lot of potential at their respective new clubs.
With the January window now just around the corner, those at the top will be looking to avoid a similar situation from occurring, and from the latest transfer rumours it sounds like we are in no hurry to sell any of our biggest assets.
Newcastle place £150m+ price tag on star man
The biggest fear for Newcastle supporters is that we would eventually be forced to sell our best players in the next couple of windows to keep up with the financial restraints that are preventing so many clubs from competing.
However, Luke Edwards at The Telegraph is now reporting that Alexander Isak, arguably our most important player this year, is not for sale as the club are demanding at least £150m to even consider losing him.
It's believed interested parties such as Arsenal have been warned it will take a British record to sign the former Real Sociedad star, who is happy on Tyneside and not agitating to leave.
This suggests that we are in a much stronger position financially than we had been in the summer, and hopefully we will have more power in the transfer market.
Edwards reports that the club could still look at a new improved deal for our Swedish superstar, but with the 25-year-old still under contract for another three and a half years, Toon chiefs are 'relaxed' about his future.
There’s very few clubs in the world, if any, who could afford a fee like that, so the club must feel fairy confident that not only do we not need to sell, but also that the Swedish striker is happy to stay at the club.
Newcastle now need a mini rebuild this summer
A lot of what Newcastle do next summer will depend on where we finish in the league, but either way we need to a mini rebuild of the squad to finally cut off the deadwood and start to compete with the best.
The first aim is obviously keeping the likes of Bruno, Tonali and Isak which will be much easier with Champions League football, and then we can focus on who will be let go.
If not in this upcoming window, then it is very likely we will see Miguel Almiron, Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Martin Dubravka all leave the club next summer, getting a fair amount off of the wages.
Any money that brings in or saved us must then be used to recruit players who can elevate the club and match the quality of Isak to ensure that we can really take the next steps as a football club in becoming a global force.
