Paul Mitchell identifies £25m bargain and eyes exciting deal with former club - Report

In what could pan out to be another hectic window, Newcastle United have been linked with two more names as we look to capitalise on this good run of form and push on for the rest of the season.

Although sales will be key to free up funds from a PSR perspective, we will still explore every opportunity to try and improve the squad after a lack of first-team additions in 2024. 

We all know Howe loves a hard worker and English talents with big potential, so it’ll be no surprise to hear we are yet again in the market for two domestic talents as we bid to improve that right-wing position.

Newcastle eyeing two exciting Premier League talents 

According to Craig Hope at The Mail, Newcastle are showing keen interest in Southampton's Tyler Dibling and Man City talent James McAtee; who has become available for a bargain fee.  

Hope reveals that Dibling came close to signing for us in 2022 and even travelled to Tyneside to meet club staff. A few years on, it's thought Paul Mitchell is hoping to benefit from his strong links with Southampton by striking a deal, leaving the club in a good position to strike a deal in 2025. Liverpool are also big admirers and could be tough to compete with should they firm up their interest, however.

Dibling has shown a lot of talent during the first half of this season and at just 18-years-old he’s already competing with some of the best in his position with his bravery on the ball and ability to beat his man. 

McAtee is another name being suggested as the 22-year-old is ready to leave Man City after struggling for game time, despite showing a lot of promise for Sheffield United both in the Premier League and the Championship.

It's thought Newcastle are big fans of the technically gifted right-winger and feel he could be great value for money at £25m.

Newcastle moving away from big money signings

While Newcastle have splashed out on the likes of Alexander Isak (£63m) and Sandro Tonali (£55m) in the past, for the foreseeable future it does look like we’ll be moving away from that and lean more towards players with big potential.

Like Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, the model is very much to invest into these players who won’t demand big wages or immediate playing time but can be bedded into the squad gradually.

Dibling and McAtee both fit into those categories with the latter available for just £25m; an affordable fee which could easily double with the right attitude, hard work and development under Howe's watch.
