Newcastle linked with Wolfsburg star and loan deal on offer with two clubs keen

The January window is a week old and, despite a quiet start across the Premier League, rumours around potential ins and outs at St James’ Park continue.

This week, a new name has been linked in Newcastle’s bid to bring in another goalkeeper, while forgotten Toon defender Matt Targett is receiving interest from two clubs in Europe.

Here’s the latest, starting with reports of interest in a Bundesliga stopper being tipped to replace Martin Dubravka.

Wolfsburg star on Newcastle’s radar?

Newcastle United are considering a move for Wolfsburg goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, according to Caught Offside.

Another stopper looks set to arrive on Tyneside in 2025, with Martin Dubravka expected to leave for Saudi Arabaia side Al-Shaba this month.

James Trafford has been heavily linked and some believe the Burnley talent is likely to sign if and when Dubravka departs for the Middle East – but Caught Offisde report that Grabara has been identified as a potential alternative.

The 25-year-old Polish international has impressed in Germany since joining from Copenhagen in a deal worth £10m, receiving praise for his sweeper-keeper qualities; something we’ve often associated with current No.1 Nick Pope.

He isn’t the only new name to be linked alongside Trafford, with Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher also mentioned as a player of interest last month.

Targett linked with two European clubs

According to talkSPORT, forgotten Mag Matt Targett is attracting interest from Germany and Belgium.

They report that Bundesliga side Frankfurt and Belgian giants Anderlecht are both keen on the left-back, who has been limited to just one substitute appearance all season.

Newcastle are said to be ‘open to offers’ and it’s no surprise, with talkSPORT reporting that Targett takes home around £70,000-per-week.

He’s contracted to the club for another 18 months after signing permanently from Aston Villa in 2022, but a loan move that sees Newcastle pay a significant portion of his wages is considered a likely exit route for the rarely-seen full-back.
