Despite links with a move to Fenerbahce for Lloyd Kelly and some uncertainty over Martin Dubravka’s future, it looks like Miguel Almiron is the one Mag close to sealing a January move away.
The Telegraph revealed earlier this week that Miggy was edging closer to a move after contact from clubs in America, Brazil and across Europe, but some big claims have emerged on his likely destination.
Almiron set for return to former club?
The latest developments in Almiron saga suggest the Paraguayan is on course to make a sensational return to former club Atlanta United.
It emerged before our 3-0 win over Wolves that the MLS club, who Almiron originally left for Tyneside back in 2019, had approached Newcastle about Almiron’s availability, but it now sounds like a deal is close.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that Atlanta United are ‘working to reach agreement’ with Newcastle after offering £11m for the Paraguayan.
Talks have reached an ‘advanced’ stage and Newcastle are considering the bid, with a conclusion ‘expected in coming day’, writes Ornstein.
Another MLS club, Charlotte FC, had been linked closely with Almiron back in December, but their reported interest in former Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha may just push Atlanta in the driving seat in terms of negotiations.
Atlanta are said to have money to spend, with Sky’s Keith Downie reporting that Ronny Deila’s side are also looking at Middlesbrough’s Latte Lath to bolster their attack ahead of the upcoming league campaign.
Miggy’s goodbye cameo?
Almiron came on in the second half of our win over Wolves in what looks likely to be his last outing for the club. As things stand, he may be on his way back to America by the time we play Bournemouth in Saturday’s early kick off.
If that’s it for Miggy and he seals a move back to the MLS, we thank him for all of his effort, those goals that helped fire us to the Champions League two seasons ago and that non-stop smile!
My goodness, £11m, I just totally don’t believe it for one minute, we should be so lucky!

If Almiron is to go then it should be with good wishes and thanks for his contribution from the supporters and I hope he gets a chance to say goodbye on Saturday
