Newcastle United are on fire, heading into tonight’s 7.30pm kick-off at home to Wolves after eight straight wins in all competitions.
We’re in brilliant form and flying in the league and cup, but some of our rivals are struggling for form, with Chelsea now five Premier League games without a win.
We have to take care of our own business this week, where we face back-to-back home games, but it was a near-perfect Tuesday night elsewhere.
Results go Newcastle’s way
Last night, we saw the following Premier League results from Tuesday night’s action:
- Chelsea 2-2 Bournemouth
- Nottingham Forest 1-1 Liverpool
- Brentford 2-2 Man City
- West Ham 3-2 Fulham
Starting at Chelsea, a draw was probably the perfect result for us. Bournemouth were 2-1 up would’ve gone ahead of us with a win, while Chelsea – who equalised in stoppage time – would’ve gone four clear of us had they won, but a draw means we can now move 4th with a win tonight.
Then to Forest, who were on course to go EIGHT points clear of Newcastle had they held on against Liverpool. But, Liverpool’s equaliser means we can go within three of Forest should we beat Wolves tonight.
Man City then blew a 2-0 lead at Brentford to draw 2-2. This keeps them 6th on 35 points and behind us on goal difference after Pep Guardiola’s side showed their defensive frailties once again.
West Ham’s 3-2 win over Fulham also keeps the latter five points behind us. The Cottagers would’ve gone just points behind us with a win, but they slipped up in Graham Potter’s first home game with the Hammers.
Kind run of fixtures to come
Newcastle face three home games in the next four and an away trip to the worst side in the league. It’s a big chance to bolster our top-four hopes.
- Newcastle vs Wolves – Wednesday 15th January
- Newcastle vs Bournemouth – Saturday 18th January
- Southampton vs Newcastle – Saturday 25th January
- Newcastle vs Fulham – Saturday 1st February
Following tonight’s clash with fourth-bottom Wolves, we face Bournemouth on Saturday in the early kick-off. After that comes a trip to Southampton, then Fulham at home a few days before our Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Arsenal.
Considering our form, results last night and the fact 5th are on course to get Champions League football, it’s a huge chance for us to keep the run going and hand our European hopes another major boost.
Howay the lads!
Hope so Olly!
Can’t be complacent in this league, you could throw a placemat over the top 10 bar Liverpool.
