Some new claims have arrived regarding Bryan Mbeumo; the Brentford star considered too expensive this month, but someone we could look to sign in the summer.
Jacob Murphy has been imperious since the start of December but has not been famed for his consistency in black-and-white. Talks about Newcastle bringing in a right winger have surrounded the winter window, with Mbeumo one of the big names mentioned.
A perfect fit for Eddie Howe’s squad, the latest word is that links between Newcastle and Mbeumo may not just be paper talk – this definitely seems one to watch.
New claims on Bryan Mbeumo
Speaking to The United Stand, transfer expert Ben Jacobs claimed Newcastle are the only club to make a ‘concrete’ approach for Mbeumo so far, suggesting a summer bid could be one to watch.
He said: “Brentford don’t want to sell, that’s the first thing. Newcastle are the only club that have made any concrete approach – No bid for January but they’re looking at Mbeumo over the summer.
“What we can say is when Dan Ashworth was still at Newcastle he was looking at Mbeumo. It’s logical to think when Ashworth was still at (Man United) he had put Mbeumo into the mix, but I’m not aware that has been taken forward by Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada or any of the recruitment team.
“Nothing on my radar with Manchester United and Bryan Mbeumo other than to point out that Newcastle likes him and they liked him when Dan Ashworth was still there.”
Bees boss Thomas Frank has ruled out a January exit for the Cameroonian, but it sounds like we may be making early moves to sound out a potential deal this summer?
Jacobs has previously revealed that there is “some substance” to links between Newcastle and Caoimhin Kelleher, suggesting we could yet raid Premier League clubs despite links with several players across Europe.
Paul Mitchell’s approach was thought to be to look continentally to find more affordable deals after being priced out of moves for Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo – though the focus may switch during the summer window, with us unable to afford a hefty transfer fee in January.
The perfect right-winger – but won’t come cheap!
Newcastle will face stiff competition to secure the signing of the Cameroonian, with Arsenal also interested according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg. There is no doubt at all that Mbeumo will not come cheap.
Brentford hold a powerful position with the option to extend the 25-year-old’s contract until 2027. There is no real need for them to sell this summer but it may be their final opportunity to get a hefty fee for the winger.
Though Murphy’s 10 goal contributions is far from anything to be scoffed at, it pales in comparison to the 16 of Mbeumo – with 13 of them being goals. It’s a terrifying prospect for opposition defence if we can pull off a front three of Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Mbeumo.
The threat level between those three would be second to none. Electric pace across the board, elite movement with a goal threat from each and every angle. Mbeumo has to be a high priority signing this summer.
Mbeumo needs to be bought now. Look at the table. With such a transfer, you can break into the championship race. Half of the season is ahead. All competitors have European Cups. Such chances will probably not be soon

I thought we had £70m in the transfer budget.
We need some like him now we might even win it all.

There is only seventy million in the transfer kitty now if you are going to sell someone at the PSR June/July deadline again.
Who are you going to sell out of the big first team players?
I’d rather keep quiet, sell reserves and the players we know need to go and pull another team’s pants down at the deadline like Forest and Brighton did to us last summer.
