It’s been an incredible turnaround at Newcastle United, where we’ve gone from a consistently inconsistent bottom half position and struggling to score goals, to into the top-four after NINE straight wins in all competitions.
26 goals and just three conceded over that period is some going, summing up our dominance over the past seven weeks as we ended 2024 in style and kicked of 2024 with wins over Spurs, Arsenal, Bromley and Wolves by an aggregate score of 10-2.
However, we’ve picked up another stat that perfectly sums up the unbelievable shift we’ve witnessed since that grim day at Crystal Palace at the end of November.
Not only did we concede a stoppage time equaliser at Selhurst Park, we had ZERO shots on target all afternoon (and just one shot) against a Palace side who started that day bottom of the league. Understandably, after that match there was huge concern on social media about the nature of our performance in the final third.
Since then, a previously toothless Newcastle United have been absolutely transformed in attack, scoring TWO or more goals in ELEVEN straight games since that miserable day in South London:
Newcastle’s goal-run since Crystal Palace 1-1 Newcastle
- Newcastle 3-3 Liverpool
- Brentford 4-2 Newcastle
- Newcastle 4-0 Leicester
- Newcastle 3-1 Brentford
- Ipswich 0-4 Newcastle
- Newcastle 3-0 Aston Villa
- Man Utd 0-2 Newcastle
- Tottenham 1-2 Newcastle
- Arsenal 0-2 Newcastle
- Newcastle 3-1 Bromley
- Newcastle 3-0 Wolves
In the 11 games following Crystal Palace (A) we’ve scored 31 goals.
In the 11 games prior to this run (including the 1-1 draw at Palace), Newcastle scored just 11 goals.
Essentially, we’ve suddenly gone from averaging one goal a game over an 11-game spell to three a game. On top of that, Newcastle have scored three or more in SIX consecutive home games, showing how prolific we’ve been at St James’ Park.
Hopefully that’s a sign of things to come and not a curse ahead of today’s 12.30pm kick-off at home to Bournemouth!
You can’t win the lottery if you don’t buy a ticket.
It’s hard to score if you don’t shoot.
Obviously Eddie has battered into the players that they should be shooting from all over the park.
Lottery tickets in hand – let’s go for it.
