Newcastle ‘very interested’ in signing €25m striker this summer – BILD

Newcastle United are getting ahead on their summer transfer business with an incoming sale making their budget clearer.

Miguel Almiron is nearing the exit door at St. James’ Park with a return to his former club Atlanta United beckoning in a deal that would add £10m to Eddie Howe’s budget ahead of the PSR deadline on June 30.

It seems likely that the Magpies will not be active in pursuit of a signing in the ongoing January transfer window, but they have a key young attacking talent in mind when the window reopens this summer.

Toon ‘very interested’ in €25m deal

According to reports in Germany, Newcastle’s interest in Stefanos Tzimas is intensifying with one eye on a summer move to St James’ Park

German outlet BILD report that we are ‘very interested’ in the Greek striker and are the second favourites to sign him, behind one unnamed Premier League side also pushing for his signature.

Liverpool have also been linked and a summer transfer is one to watch, with the report stating that Nuremberg plan to activate their €18m option-to-buy at the end of the season before selling him for around €25m; securing a quick €7m profit.

Currently scoring for fun in the German second tier, Tzimas is proving to be one of Greece’s rising stars with nine goals in the 15 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga under head coach Miroslav Klose this season.

Tzimas is 6ft 1′, two-footed, physical and technically proficient forward with a sharp burst of pace. The 19-year-old is also credited with putting in his fair share of defensive duties and may be a ready made fit for Howe’s system.

Another potential project signing?

Tzimas may well be ready to compete within a Premier League squad, but it would be interesting to see the process for his development if he signs on Tyneside this summer.

In terms of ‘project’ signings we have made with a view to the future, the Greek may be developed in a similar vein to Yankuba Minteh – where he was loaned out to gather experience on the continent, though of course this time we have to play our hands right and ensure that development isn’t wasted.

Or, the Will Osula route. Learning from / competing with superstar forward Alexander Isak and making developments within our setup where we can keep an eye on his progress. Lewis Hall’s minutes were managed before his nailing down of a first team spot, and if Tzimas impresses he could shoot up the ranks quite quickly.
