After relentless talk around Arsenal’s interest in Alexander Isak, it seems the Swede isn’t the only Newcastle United star on the Gunners’ radar.
Hopefully all this exit talk is put to bed soon by us knocking them out of next month’s Carabao Cup semi-final and returning to the Champions League next season.
But, for now, there’s more chatter around potential interest as David Ornstein – one of the most reliable journalists in football – discusses Arsenal’s ongoing interest in another Newcastle attacker.
Ornstein reveals Arsenal interest
If links with Liverpool weren’t enough over the summer, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are also interested in Anthony Gordon.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Show, Ornstein admitted that Arsenal have attempted to sign the 23-year-old in the past and remain big admirers of the scouse winger:
“They came close to doing something on Anthony Gordon in the past. Again, I don’t think he would be one they (Newcastle) would like to lose, but I do hear of clubs who have huge admiration for him, even Arsenal among them, like Anthony Gordon.”
“I think Isak would be the last resort (for Newcastle to sell). You do have to remember, though, that there’s a bit of a contract situation there with him at Newcastle that doesn’t appear to have moved forward.”
Gordon’s price would be huge
Sky Germany reported yesterday that Brentford are demanding £50m for Kevin Schade; a fellow 23-year-old winger who rarely starts for the Bees.
If that’s his price tag, it makes you wonder what Newcastle would demand for an England international who is versatile, rapid, only getting better and on course to deliver double figures for goals and assists in the Premier League in back to back seasons.
Considering we paid £45m for Gordon at a time where he was still raw, without an England cap or any track record of goals or assists in the Premier League, we’d be in a position to demand almost double that now.
More talk of outgoings is hardly the antidote to a frustrating January window so far. But, if it’s any consolation, at least we are well protected and in a position to demand huge sums for our star men, with Gordon also signing a new long-term deal just a few months ago.
Wow he’s really good mind isn’t he?!
You’ve got to be in the know to get that clubs would want Isak & Gordon though 🤷🏼♂️🙄
