After what was a relatively poor start to the season, Eddie Howe and Newcastle have massively turned things around in the last six weeks.
Our superb run ended last Saturday with a 4-1 loss at home to Bournemouth, but we’ve gone from 12th and way off the European places to sitting fifth in the league, winning nine of our last 10 games.
There’ll be frustration at the nature of the weekend defeat, however, it’s been made clear (once again) over the last month or so that Howe is the man to lead us forward – and his latest quotes only further that claim.
Howe’s brilliant admission Newcastle fans will love
After what felt like an eternity of miserable football under some pretty poor managers in the last 20 or so years, Howe has finally brought that energy back not only into the team but into the whole city as well.
In a recent interview, Howe claimed that, after spending over three years in the North East, Newcastle is in his blood and has become such an important part of every aspect of his life.
The 46-year-old says that even his kids are Geordies now, giving him an even greater connection to the city that will last beyond his time as manager here.
In a brilliant interview with Premier League reporter Andy Sixsmith, Howe said:
“Without a doubt, Newcastle is in my blood. My kids are 100% Geordies and that gives me another connection with the city.
“But football is right at the heart of everything. And that’s what we have to do as a team. Live it. Every second. Take that responsibility and make our people proud.
“We have – and we’ve gone on this beautiful journey together.”
As supporters it is so important to see our players and coaching staff fully buy into the culture of the city and how much we care about our club, and Howe has been the epitome of everything we could have asked for.
Huge summer coming up for Howe
After two – and what looks like could now be three – transfer windows without any major signings, Howe has done very well to navigate through a difficult period for the club and prove he’s not just a one trick pony.
We’ve seen how good he is at getting the very best out of players, but we’ve also seen how tough it can be when you’re squad is stretched to its limits competing in multiple competitions and having to travel around Europe.
If we keep our current form up we look nailed on to once again qualify for a European tournament, but this time we must be more prepared and go all out to give Howe the tools he needs to ensure there’s not a drop off in quality like we saw last season.
Howe and his players have a real chance to become heroes in this city and with the way things are going right now there is no telling what our ceiling even looks like.

A “massive summer”? I think I heard words to that effect this time last year.

Surely Newcastle would never, ever think of selling Isaac to a team like Arsenal.
One of the main competitors.
They would surely be shooting themselves in the foot.
